The Makita brushless motor gives two speeds and reverse with an audible warning, which in an apiary with people around is not a small detail. The hand brake lets you go down a slope controlling the load instead of holding it with your body.

The rear wheels adjust for height and carry a foot brake, so the barrow can be left standing on a slope while you open a hive. The handle adjusts to three heights, and that is what keeps you from working bent over all morning.

02 · TWO BATTERIES AND A TWIN CHARGER

What comes in the kit

It ships with its platform for loading and carrying, two lithium batteries and a twin charger. It is a closed kit: nothing needs adding to start working.

If you already work with tools on the same battery platform, the ones you have will serve too; check the model before counting on them.

03 · BRAKES, REVERSE AND ANTI-TIP

Details you appreciate with a hive on board

It has an anti-tip mechanism that holds the tub or the platform so it cannot swing over by accident when released. With a populated hive, that is the difference between a move and a lost afternoon.

The whole thing is built with the XPT protection the maker declares against dust and water, meant for outdoor work. It is still an electric machine: not one to push through a puddle, but a day in the field will not stop it.
