DOUBLE POLYAMIDE FABRIC | XS-3XL SIZES |
Full beekeeper's overall in double-layer white polyamide, with a round mesh veil that unzips, pockets and zipped ankles.
It does not protect by thickness: it protects because the bee slips on polyamide and finds nowhere to sting.
01 · HOW IT PROTECTS
Polyamide is a light, very smooth fabric, and that is the mechanism: a bee that lands finds no grip, slides, and struggles to get the sting in perpendicular, which is how stinging works. It comes in double fabric, so the smooth surface is backed by a gap between layers. It is a different approach from heavy cotton, which protects by thickness and breathes more: here you gain lightness and low weight and lose some breathability on very hot days. The round veil is mesh, ventilates and gives all-round vision, and it unzips so you can wash it separately or work without it when the job allows.
02 · THE SIZE
It is the most repeated doubt, and it comes from an ambiguity worth clearing up: when the table says “front length” and “chest” it is describing the suit laid flat on a table, not the person. Chest is measured seam to seam — that is half the circumference, so a 57 cm chest is about 114 cm around — and front length is the total length of the garment, collar to trouser hem. The method that never fails: lay out an overall or jacket that already fits you, measure those two figures and compare. And as with any workwear, if you are between two sizes, go up: a tight suit pulls against the body the moment you bend, and that is where the sting reaches.
03 · HOW FAR IT GOES
It is meant for routine hive work, and the same smooth-fabric mechanism works against the common wasp. Where the limit has to be drawn is the Asian hornet: removing an active nest means a collective attack, sustained impacts and venom projected at the face, and that calls for an intervention outfit with padding, helmet and visor — a different product category, not this suit. And one qualification that applies to any bee clothing: no protection is infallible with a very defensive colony or with the fabric pulled tight against the skin.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
It closes with a heavy-duty zip and has zips at the ankles to adjust the fit and to get in and out without fighting your boots, plus two trouser pockets. The veil comes off completely, which makes washing easier — polyamide washes well and dries fast, another advantage over cotton. Available from XS to 3XL.
