Stainless is not a finishing whim: iron darkens wax and copper turns it greenish. The colour of the block is decided in the mould.

01 · HOW BIG THE BLOCK IS
A little over two kilos
The bowl's 2.5 litres, filled leaving a finger of margin, give a block of a little over two kilos: wax weighs slightly less than water, about 0.96 kg per litre.
That is the figure you need to plan what you send to the wax processor.
02 · RELEASING IT WHOLE
What frees the block is the cooling
Wax shrinks as it cools, and that is exactly what pulls the block away from the walls. So let it cool right through: forcing it out warm is how it breaks.
Two habits that make it easy: wet the mould with soapy water before pouring, and let it cool slowly and sheltered. A sudden chill cracks the block because the surface contracts before the inside does.
03 · THE UNDERSIDE
That is where the dirt settles
When you cast melted wax, the impurities and water go to the bottom: the block comes out with a dirty layer on its underside. Scrape it off before weighing, because the processor discounts it.
Stainless steel cleans with hot water, which is what lifts wax residue without scratching.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
