01 · WHAT IT DOES

Holds the frames and strains the wax

Frames or pieces of comb go inside the basket; the steam wraps them, the wax melts and drains through the holes in the wall and bottom towards the outlet, while cocoons, pupal skins and comb debris stay behind. It is a screen for visible solids, not a sterilisation or a cleaning of the wax: that comes later, in the block, if needed. The frames come out empty and ready to re-wire.

02 · WHY STAINLESS

Steam cycles without darkening the wax

Stainless steel takes the cycles of steam and hot water without corroding and does not darken the wax as iron or zinc would; the holes stay clear with a hot brushing at the end. The two handles are for lifting it out with gloves, full and steaming.

03 · WHAT IT GOES WITH

The 115 litre melter, and as a second basket

It is the basket of the house’s 115 litre steam wax melter (313), Ø 525 × 650 mm inside: for another melter, measure the tank before ordering. With two baskets there is no wait between batches: one melts inside while the other is loaded with the next frames, which in a foundation change over several hives is where the afternoon goes.
