Solid divider for Layens hives, made from high-density water-resistant board.
Its function is to create an opaque partition within the hive and block the direct passage of bees between the two sides. It can be used to delimit the space occupied by a colony or as part of a setup with two separate compartments.
01 · INSTALLATION
Place it inside the Layens before introducing the colony. It must rest continuously against the sides, floor and top, with no gaps through which the bees can go round it. The Layens boxes vary depending on the manufacturer and intended use; it is therefore advisable to measure the actual internal profile and check that the notches on the divider align with the frame rests in your hive. In a single colony, only move it when the colony has filled the available space and seasonal management practices warrant it.
02 · USE
The divider allows for the creation of two separate blocks, but does not in itself create two viable colonies. Each side requires its own entrance, a sufficient population, a queen or queen-rearing plan, reserves, ventilation and monitoring. Before working with two queens, check that there is no accidental communication between compartments and that the top seal maintains the separation when the lid is fitted.
03 · BEFORE YOU BUY
| ⚠ NOT INCLUDED | Water-repellent does not mean immune to moisture. The board is designed to withstand moisture better than an ordinary board, but the edges and areas subject to friction must be kept clean and free from standing water. Check periodically for swelling, warping or gnawing, especially after a wet season. If it loses its fit, it ceases to be a reliable barrier and must be repaired or replaced. |
