Ventilation plug for the central hole of the crown board, sized so air gets through and bees do not.
It press-fits into the Ø 50 mm holes of hardboard crown boards and solves in one piece what many people bodge with a block of wood: ventilating without leaving a gap they can escape through.
01 · WHAT IT SOLVES
Air that cannot get out turns into condensation over the frames, and on a move with the hive shut it turns into a serious problem within half an hour. This plug lets air flow steadily while no worker, drone or queen gets through it: the gap is sized for exactly that. Which is why it works just as well on splits and nucs, where you want ventilation with no contact and no escapes between boxes.
02 · FITTING
It presses into the Ø 50 mm hole the crown board already has: nothing to screw or glue. It has a side tab so you can pull it out with your fingers, without splintering the board or pushing it through from above. And it stays put when you use the crown board as a clearer board, which is exactly where a wooden block always ends up on the floor. The white plastic takes heat, damp, propolis and a wash in warm water.
