🪵 Solid 25 mm pine with finger-jointed corners

The standard 22 mm Langstroth boxes hold up for a few seasons before the corners start opening or the walls bow under the weight (a full super of capped honey weighs 25–30 kg). This version steps up to 25 mm solid pine with finger joints at all four corners — the mechanical interlock takes the load, the nails just close it. You notice the difference past the fifth or sixth stack: the box stays square, still mates flush with the next one, and runs hard for a decade without replacement. Hand grips carved straight into the timber, no bolted-on hardware to work loose.

📐 Langstroth format 430×515 mm — check compatibility first

Outer dimensions 430×515 mm with a 240 mm body height, the standard American Langstroth that runs on most European apiaries. Compatible with any Langstroth floor, screened bottom board, crown board and roof — including plastic-bottom and mixed floors. Not compatible with Dadant (whose body measures 519×435 mm) or Commercial. If your apiary runs Langstroth, this box is genuinely modular: first season as a brood box, second as a super, third already broken-in for overwintering or transport.

🍯 10 wired Hoffmann frames included — fit foundation and go

The box ships fully assembled with 10 Hoffmann frames horizontally wired, so all you need to do is fit foundation and start. Hoffmann frames have spacers built into the side bar (rather than separate metal ends), they hold proper bee space out of the box and are easier to handle during inspection: lift the frame and the spacers come with it, no surprises. Horizontal wiring stands up to manual and radial extractor spinning better than vertical, especially on freshly uncapped frames.

🔄 Two jobs in the apiary — brood box today, honey super tomorrow

The same piece does two jobs over the season:

• As a brood box: sitting on the floor, where the queen lays and the colony develops. Room for 10 frames of brood, honey and pollen distributed.
• As a honey super: stacked above the brood box with or without a queen excluder, holding nectar from each flow (oil seed rape, lime blossom, heather, wildflower, sweet chestnut…). A full super collects between 18 and 25 kg of honey depending on the flow.

That's why it pays to keep 1–2 spare supers per hive: you don't want to be short on supers the day a heather or chestnut flow peaks.
