01 · THE SIZE

116, 128, 146, 152 or 158 centimetres

European children's sizing is numbered by height: size 128 is for a child around 128 cm tall, not for a twelve-year-old. Choosing by age is the mistake that sends most overalls back.

Here are the garment measurements, which is what you compare against the clothes the child already wears:

Between 146 and 158 there is also size 152. If you are torn between two, write to us with the child's height and we will tell you which to order.

02 · WHAT CLOSES AND HOW

The points a bee gets in through

The round veil is detachable and closes with a zip and hook-and-loop, so the overall can be washed separately and the veil replaced if the mesh gets damaged. The mesh runs all the way round, which is what stops a child getting anxious inside the suit.

The rest is the usual, well solved: elastic at wrists, ankles and waist and a full-length front zip that a seven or eight year old can already manage alone.

03 · HOW FAR IT GOES

What this overall is not

It is a suit for starting out and tagging along: workshops, apiary visits, helping with a calm inspection. It is not meant for working defensive colonies or for a long harvest session.

And a habit that applies to any suit, adult ones included: long sleeves and trousers underneath. The fabric protects, but pressed against the skin — shoulders and back above all — a sting can reach through. Always with an adult beekeeper present.

04 · THE COLOUR

Turquoise, and not only for looks

A bright colour does a practical job in the apiary: you see the child from a distance without having to look for them, and on a group visit that counts.

The blended fabric is light and breathable, which on a sunny morning is the difference between a child who lasts the visit and one who wants the suit off after ten minutes.
