01 · WHAT IT IS FOR

The tool you have on you without planning it

It does not replace your working hive tool: it complements it. Its place is the short visit — checking an entrance, straightening a crown board, scraping a blocked entrance frame, opening a feeder — and the pocket of someone who came for something else. At 15 cm and a few grams, it is always there, which is more than the good tool left in the car can say.

02 · THE TWO ENDS

One scrapes, the other goes in

The wide flat end is for dragging wax and propolis off a surface. The narrow curved one goes into the joint and turns: the curve converts a twist of the wrist into separation, which is how you open without splintering the edge. Using the wide end as a lever is what bends small hive tools.

03 · ITS LIMIT

Little length is little leverage

Leverage depends on the arm, and 15 cm give what they give. On a heavily propolised box, or to part two supers sealed after a good flow, it falls short and you will feel it in your wrist before the hive does. That is what the long hive tool is for; this one is for light work, and it is also the one that suits a small hand best.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Like any tool that goes into several hives, clean and disinfect it when you change apiary.
