01 · COLD FIRST

Freeze the screen until the propolis turns brittle

At room temperature propolis is sticky and elastic: scraping it like that smears it into the mesh. Frozen, the screen releases it when you flex or roll it, and it falls away in clean flakes. What stays in the angles of the weave is what you go over with this tip, and very little pressure is enough.

02 · WHY PLASTIC

You are collecting food, not cleaning equipment

Screen propolis is harvested for consumption, so everything that touches it counts. Plastic declared for food contact avoids adding to the harvest what any old metal can leave behind. And there is a practical reason: the screen is flexible and a metal tip cuts it, whereas this one bears on it without damage.

03 · THE HARVEST

From the screen, not from scraping

Screen propolis is cleaner and more uniform than what is scraped off timber, which drags along wax, splinters and bits of bee. Work over a clean tray and keep it apart from scrapings: mixing them drops the good batch to the level of the worst.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

It is a hand tool for the finishing pass: it replaces neither the freezer nor the collector screen itself.
