01 · THE SIZE

116 means 116 cm tall

It is the European children's system and it clears up the usual confusion: the size is the child's height, not their age. A child of 1.28 m wears the 128 whether they are nine or twelve.

These are the measurements the maker publishes:

The size 152 is also stocked, and the maker publishes no measurements for it: it sits between the 146 and the 158. And since the suit is worn over clothes, take the larger of two sizes.

02 · THE VEIL

Round, detachable and fully closed

The veil is round and comes off completely: it joins with a zip and velcro, so it separates for washing and closes all the way round for work. That rigid hoop keeps the mesh away from the face, which is exactly what a child needs — the sting arrives when the fabric rests against skin.

The front zip can be worked by the child, and the elastic at wrists and ankles closes the two places a bee walks in.

03 · HOW FAR IT PROTECTS

It is a beginner's suit

It is worth saying plainly: this is a light single-layer suit, meant for supervised first steps, workshops and school visits. It is not the kit for a defensive colony or a day of harvesting, and it is always used with an adult present.

With a single layer a sting can reach where the fabric presses against the body — shoulders and back — so put long sleeves and trousers underneath. And the adult picks the day: a calm colony, decent weather and no robbing.

04 · FABRIC AND COLOUR

Light, and visible among the hives

The 65 % polyester and 35 % cotton mix survives washing without shrinking and breathes enough for a short summer visit.

The sky blue of the Color Line is not just looks: a child in blue is spotted at a glance among the hives, which is the first thing the adult with them wants.
