Easter rabbit mould: a 7.5 cm figure from just 25 grams of wax — forty candles to a kilo.

It is the best-yielding mould in the whole catalogue. Twenty-five grams a candle works out at forty pieces per kilo of wax. For a beekeeper who already has the wax at home, that is the difference between selling it in bulk and selling it made up.

01 · 25 GRAMS: 40 CANDLES PER KILO

A tall, slim figure uses very little

The rabbit stands 7.5 cm tall and still takes only 25 grams. The reason is the shape: between the ears and the legs there is a lot of air, and a slender figure uses considerably less than a cylinder of the same height.

The matching wick is the 3 × 6, the one for narrow pieces. On a figure like this, an oversized wick does not make it last longer — it makes it melt out through the sides before its time.

02 · THE EARS ARE THE WEAK POINT

Which is why you unmould it cold

Beeswax melts between 62 and 65 °C and pours comfortably at 70-75 °C, below the 85 at which it starts to darken. Warming the mould slightly before filling helps the wax reach the tips of the ears instead of setting on the way. The mould has a slit: before pouring, close it with rubber bands so the wax does not escape through the join.

The rest is waiting. The ears are the thinnest part of the piece and the first to break if you pull at the mould while the wax is still warm; with the candle completely cold, the silicone releases it on its own.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY
