Details of Candle Mould - Easter Lamb

Silicone mould of the Easter lamb: 95 grams of wax a piece and a 3 × 11 wick.

The wick already tells you what kind of candle this is. The 3 × 11 is the wick LYSON recommends for this 9.5 × 4.5 cm figure, 7 cm tall. At 95 grams it is not a slender figure: it is solid.

01 · 95 GRAMS AND A 3 × 11 WICK

Ten candles to the kilo

Each piece takes about 95 g, so a kilo of wax gives ten lambs. It is one of those figures sold singly and priced as a piece, not by the dozen.

The 3 × 11 is the one LYSON specifies for this figure. If it falls short, the candle burns down a channel and leaves the figure intact around it, which is exactly what the buyer does not want.

02 · WAX DOES NOT FLOW AT 65 °C

The working point is 70-75

The maker's sheet said to pour at about 65 °C, and that is where beeswax has only just melted: it arrives thick and does not reach into the detail of the fleece. The right point is 70-75 °C.

And the ceiling is 85 °C, above which wax darkens. Pour with the wick already centred and straight, let it cool without moving the mould, and only then unmould and trim the wick. The mould has a slit: before pouring, close it with rubber bands so the wax does not escape through the join.
