Details of Candle mould - Cylinder with reindeer

Flexible silicone mould for a cylindrical candle with a reindeer in relief: a figure 12 cm tall and 6.5 cm across, about 335 g of wax.

The 335 grams do add up, and in this range that has to be checked. The cylinder enclosing the figure — Ø 6.5 by 12 cm — is 398 cm³, which at the density of wax gives 382 g as a ceiling. A cylindrical candle fills nearly all of its cylinder, so the 335 g declared, 88 % of the maximum, are exactly what you would expect.

01 · THREE CANDLES PER KILO

That is the figure to plan with

At 335 g a piece you get three candles per kilo: with our 1 kg wax block, about €4.99 a candle. With your own cappings wax, the cost is whatever you put on it.

02 · POUR AT 70-75 °C

The figure the sheet did not carry

Wax melts between 62 and 65 °C and is poured at 70-75: below that it arrives setting and leaves cold lines, which on a cylinder show from top to bottom. Above 85 it darkens. Clean mould, centred wick and full cooling without moving it. The mould has a slit: before pouring, close it with rubber bands so the wax does not escape through the join.

03 · A 3x18 WICK, AS A STARTING POINT

Because the supplier's table is not a series

The supplier recommends a 3x18 flat wick for these 6.5 cm. Take it as a starting point: in its own catalogue another mould of the same diameter carries 3x16, and the Easter egg, at 7.8 cm, also carries 3x18. Two test pours settle it better than the table.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Three candles per kilo, and pour at 70-75 °C.
