01 · COMPATIBILITY

Five 66 jars, and two that are not for this lid

It closes the 0.5 kg honeycomb jar, the 250 ml B250, the 140 ml B4 onzas, the Oval BOV 370 and the 520 ml Saldae. The ones left out are the deep-finish jars: the 212 ml Deep and the 136 ml DTO-66, whose necks are longer and which call for the deep H14 skirt — a different glass finish, GPI 2035, and 12.23 g of metal against the 8.90 g here. Diameter alone does not decide it: check whether the jar says Deep or DTO.

02 · THE PACK SUMS

Three jars match exactly; two do not

The pack of 25 lids matches the honeycomb jar, the B250 and the B4 onzas to the unit, as those are sold in packs of 25. The Oval BOV 370 comes in twenties, however, and the Saldae in sixteens: if you fill those two, allow extra packs of lids or you will run short halfway through the run. For production, the full box of this reference is 1,310 lids.

03 · THE SEAL

The compound seals, which is why a lid closes once

What makes the jar airtight is not tightening force: it is the ring of sealing compound deforming against the glass rim. On that first closure the ring takes the imprint of the rim and never goes flat again, so a reused lid rests on its own mark and lets air through however hard you turn it. For the same reason, check the rim before capping — clean and free of chips — and keep the lids in their packaging: one dent in the skirt is enough to lose the vacuum in that jar.

FROM THE APIARY

A Twist-Off does not screw on like a bottle cap: the four lugs ride up a short ramp and the whole closure is a quarter turn. Sit it flat until you feel it settle, turn to the stop and leave it there: carrying on does not seal better, it bends the lug and leaves the jar impossible to open. If it grates or feels like the thread has stripped, lift it off and set it down again — there is no thread to strip, a lug has ridden over its ramp.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

If your jar says Deep or DTO, you need the deep skirt and this is not it. And if you want another colour, the standard 66 finish carries the whole range in packs: gold, black, silver, bronze, honeycomb and bee image.
