01 · COMPATIBILITY

Which jars it fits

It closes the TO 77 jars in the catalogue: V370 (0,5 kg), V720 (1 kg), V580, 12REF y 16REF. It will not do for TO 63, the other common honey-jar mouth, which takes four lugs instead of six. If you keep both types in the store, measure the mouth before ordering: the difference is hard to judge by eye, and a cap of the wrong size will not seal however hard you turn it.

02 · THERMAL LIMIT

Documented thermal limit

Tecnocap states pasteurisation up to 100 °C for 60 min, and sterilisation up to 125 °C by prior agreement. That figure describes what the cap withstands, not a treatment honey needs: sustained heat raises HMF and lowers diastase, so for honey the cap goes on cold and the thermal limit only matters if you are processing something else. Nor does it replace validating the food, the jar, the headspace, the closing torque and each packer's actual cycle.

03 · HANDLING

Handling: the seal is won before you fill

The inner compound is what seals, and it spoils without showing it: keep the caps in their packaging until use and avoid damp, dust or any weight that deforms the skirt. A cap with a knocked rim seats badly and lets air through however hard you turn it. Before filling, check that both the jar rim and the cap are clean and undented. Declared storage: +5 to +35 °C at a maximum relative humidity of 70 %, for up to two years.

FROM THE APIARY

A Twist-Off does not screw on like a bottle cap: the six lugs ride up a short ramp and the whole closure is a quarter turn. Sit it flat until you feel it settle, turn to the stop and leave it there: carrying on does not seal better, it bends the lug and leaves the jar impossible to open. If it grates or feels like the thread has stripped, lift it off and set it down again — there is no thread to strip, a lug has ridden over its ramp.
