Bee & Bloom building block set from the Lyson For Kids series: 421 ABS plastic pieces to build a forager bee with translucent wings perched on a bunch of coloured flowers with a meadow base. The second-longest of the series, for children from 6; it has small parts and is not for under-3s. Compatible with the other sets (3067, 3069, 3066).

Of the four sets in the series it is the one that tells the whole story: not a bee on its own, but the bee on the flower, which is where the harvest starts.

01 · WHAT YOU BUILD

The forager on the flower

The scene has two parts: the bee, with translucent wings, a brown and amber body and its legs set to land, and the bunch of flowers in several colours with green leaves on a base that acts as the meadow. Built, it stands on its own on a shelf and serves to explain, with the figure in front, what a forager does when she leaves the hive and why without flowers there is no honey.

02 · WHO IT IS FOR

From age 6, over a couple of sessions; not for under-3s

With 421 pieces it is the medium-high difficulty set of the series: longer than the anatomical bee of about 200 pieces (3069) and shorter than the 562-piece queen (3066); it lasts a couple of sessions without frustration, for children from 6 who have already built a simple set. Like any block toy, it has small parts: not for children under 3.

03 · THE SERIES

Four sets that complete each other

The four Lyson For Kids sets are compatible with each other: the bee on sunflowers, 85 pieces (3067), to start; the anatomical bee, about 200 (3069); this 421-piece scene; and the queen with two bees, 562 (3066), for several sessions. A gift for beekeepers’ children and grandchildren and for association workshops.
