Buying the floor ready-made ties you to the manufacturer's dimensions. On the roll you cut the size you need, which is what an apiary with boxes from several sources actually calls for.

01 · THE MESH

Expanded, not woven — that is why it holds its shape

It is expanded metal — stretched out of sheet, not woven from wires — and on a floor that is the difference that matters: it keeps the mesh density and the rigidity without needing a frame, whereas a woven cloth bows once the hive body presses on it. The 3.10 mm aperture lets varroa drop through and keeps the bee out.

02 · DIMENSIONS

25 metres at 508 mm high

The roll is 25 m long by 508 mm high, with wire and thickness of 0.6 mm and a weight of 1.2 kg/m². Galvanised, so it stands up to the weather without rusting — the condition for a floor that lives outside all year.

It pays off from a handful of floors onwards

A 25 m roll makes a good many floors: if you only need one or two, the ready-made floor works out better. It also serves for hive bases and ventilation parts cut to measure.
