Details of Immersion honey heater RM-520 1500 W Ø 520 mm for honey drums

This one does touch the honey. That is why it is faster than an outside band — and why it needs more care.

RM-520 immersion heater, 1,500 W at 230 V, with a thermostat and a sealed connection box. A 1,200 mm shaft and a 520 mm ring: the size of a drum.

01 · HOW IT IS BUILT

Sheathed, nickel-plated and serviceable

The elements are sheathed and nickel-plated for food use, mounted on a stainless steel bar with a handle. The connection box is sealed and carries a switch and a thermostat.

And one detail that extends its life: the base is removable, so when the heating part wears out you change that piece instead of the whole unit.

02 · HOW TO USE IT PROPERLY

Never switch it on in the air

The rule that prevents both the breakdown and the fright: the element is switched on once it is covered in honey, and switched off before it comes out. Powered in the air it overheats in seconds.

And since it is in direct contact with the product, the risk is not the equipment, it is the honey: the contact point is where it caramelises and where the HMF climbs. You work at a low temperature — of the order of 35-40 °C — and you give it time.

03 · HOW LONG AND HOW MUCH

The two usual questions

Consumption is easy to work out: 1,500 W is 1.5 kWh for every hour of continuous running.

The time depends on the volume, the starting temperature and how set the honey is, but it helps to start with the right expectation: a large, well-crystallised drum takes hours, not a moment, and speeding it up by turning the thermostat higher is exactly what spoils the honey.

04 · WHICH SIZE TO CHOOSE

The diameter governs

This model has a 520 mm ring, meant to work directly inside a drum. The range has other diameters for other tanks: what decides is not the power, it is that the ring goes in and stays covered.

If your tank is wider or much deeper, check the diameter and the shaft length before ordering.

05 · BEFORE YOU BUY

It is an electrical device that comes into contact with honey:

✓ FITSHoney drums: slow decrystallising with a thermostat.
✕ DOESN'T FITAny use outside the honey room: it is food-use equipment.
⚠ CAUTIONNever switch it on unless it is covered in honey.
