01 · WHICH FRAME FITS

The commonest question, with a caveat

The tangential basket takes 2 Langstroth brood frames or 4 half-super frames. What it does not take under any circumstances is the Layens frame.

With the Dadant brood frame it is worth asking us before ordering: it is the most repeated doubt on this page, and we would rather confirm it for your exact format than risk a twenty-kilo return.

And a note from people using it: loading four half-super frames takes care, because they go in tight.

02 · TANGENTIAL

You turn the frame round, and the comb survives

In a tangential extractor the comb faces outwards and one side empties; then you turn the frame by hand and empty the other. It is more work than a radial, but gentler on the comb: the wax holds and the frames get reused season after season.

The crank has reduction gearing, so the speed builds progressively instead of starting with a jolt — which is exactly what bursts a new comb.

03 · THE BUILT-IN SETTLING TANK

Fifty kilos underneath, and one step less

The honey falls straight into the 50 kg tank that forms the base of the machine, through a double strainer with handles that holds back wax and bees. It settles there without transferring anything.

Emptying is through a 40 mm plastic valve (6/4"). That is the size to look at if you ever want to fit another one: it is not deduced from the litres, it is measured at the outlet.

04 · WHO IT IS FOR

Few hives, little space

It is the machine for someone with a handful of hives who does not want — or cannot — set up extractor, filter and settling tank separately. Vertical structure, small footprint, easy to move.

What you pay for that is speed: it is manual and tangential, so the frames have to be turned. For real volume the road is a radial with a motor.
