01 · THE SIZE

Where each diameter is

It is the doubt that reaches this page most, so let us settle it: in the designation 50/60, the 50 is the inside diameter — the bore the honey comes out through — and the 60 is the outside of the thread. The 50 sits inside the thread, the 60 outside it.

Hence the practical consequence: if you are drilling the tank, the hole is cut to 60 mm, with a hole saw, because it is the thread that has to pass through the wall. And if your outlet is 1½″ (40/49), the one that fits is the 40 mm model, not this.

02 · HOW IT MOUNTS

Gate, gasket and nut

The gate goes in from the outside; inside come the gasket and the nut, and tightening the nut squeezes the gasket against the wall. That is where the seal is made, not in the thread.

If your tank or drum already has a 2″ female threaded socket, this gate screws straight in and you need nothing else. If what you have is a plain Ø50-60 mm hole, you also need the lock nut, sold separately.

03 · WHY 2″ AND NOT 1½″

Flow rules in the honey house

The 50 mm bore is meant for drums and large settling tanks, where the point is to empty fast: with dense or cold honey the difference between a 40 and a 50 mm bore shows up in working time, not in comfort.

In exchange, a 2″ gate needs a wall with room for a 60 mm thread. A small bucket does not always have it, and there the 1½″ makes more sense.

04 · THE CLOSURE AND WHAT WEARS

A guillotine, and a gasket that tires

The lever drives a flat blade that cuts the flow in one stroke rather than throttling it: no trailing thread to smear the rim of the container, and no air drawn in or foam raised on opening. The adjusting screw sets the blade pressure — enough not to weep, not so much that the lever has to be forced.

The body is food-grade stainless and stands season after season; the part that tires is the gasket. If the tank drips around the gate rather than out of its mouth, that is the one. Afterwards, very hot water and leave the guillotine open to dry.
