The nut clamps, but what seals is the gasket. A joint with no gasket drips however hard you tighten it — and over-tightening only dents the wall.

Food-grade stainless steel backing nut for fitting a tap to a drum or settling tank that has only a plain hole, with no thread. Available in DN40 and DN50.

01 · PICK IT BY THE TAP

Not by the container

The size is set by the tap's thread, not by the drum: DN40 for 1½" taps and DN50 for 2". The DN figure is the bore in millimetres — DN40 is a 40 mm bore — and it has nothing to do with how many litres the tap passes.

02 · THE GASKET SEALS, THE NUT CLAMPS

The assembly, in order

The nut goes inside the container and clamps the tap against the wall. That gives the mechanical hold, which is its job.

The seal has to come from a food-grade gasket between the parts and the wall. It stands about 10 mm proud on the inside, so it lives inside the drum: hence food-grade stainless, and hence it gets washed with the container, not separately.
