Replacement flexible impeller for the Liverani Minor® transfer pump: nine neoprene vanes, Ø96 mm and a 20 mm shaft bore. This is the part that wears out.
Losing flow and losing prime: that is the impeller. If what it is losing is honey towards the back, towards the motor, the problem is another one and so is the part.
01 · WHY IT IS A WEAR PART
A flexible impeller pump has no gears and no pistons: the nine neoprene vanes turn bent against the eccentric wall of the chamber and, as they spring open again, create the vacuum that draws the honey. That constant bending is what makes the pump self-prime, and it is also what finishes the impeller.
With the hours, the neoprene loses its elastic memory: the vanes no longer recover their shape and stop sealing against the wall. The first warning is usually not a drop in flow but the loss of prime — the pump still moves honey when flooded, but no longer lifts it on its own.
02 · WHAT KILLS AN IMPELLER IN SECONDS
The product being pumped is the only thing lubricating and cooling the vanes. A few seconds turning empty is enough to burn them by friction, and the impeller comes out with melted or broken tips. It is the most frequent reason for replacement, well ahead of ordinary wear.
Hence two habits that make the part last: do not start until there is product on the suction side, and stop as soon as the tank runs dry. And when fitting it, smear the vanes with a little of the product itself before closing the cover, because the first dry turn counts as much as all the others.
03 · WHICH OF THE TWO PARTS YOU NEED
The two faults get confused and they are different parts. If the flow drops or the pump stops priming, it is the impeller. If honey appears behind the body, towards the motor, it is the shaft's mechanical seal: the part that separates the product from the mechanical side, and it is listed separately.
When the pump is open it is worth looking at both. Opening the cover is the whole job; discovering the second part afterwards means doing it all again.
04 · FOR THE MINOR ONLY
It is cut for the Liverani Minor® and for that pump alone: Ø96 mm outside, a 20 mm shaft bore and a stainless shaft protruding 35 mm. The shop carries another flexible impeller that looks much the same, the one for the BR-32530 vane pump, and they are not interchangeable.
The maker states the neoprene as food grade; that is their figure.
05 · BEFORE YOU BUY
Check that your pump is the Liverani Minor®. There is a similar impeller for the BR-32530 that will not do.
