Liverani Minor 40 flexible-impeller transfer pump for honey: self-priming, AISI 304 stainless body, 1.5 kW (2 HP) motor at 220-230 V turning at 900 rpm and Ø 40 outlet with Garolla coupling, mounted on a wheeled stainless trolley. No priming by hand; the wear parts, impeller (2894) and mechanical seal (3276), are in the house.
A flexible-impeller pump primes itself because the vanes work bent: that is what makes it convenient and also what wears, which is why the impeller is a spare, not a breakdown.
01 · HOW IT WORKS
The rubber impeller turns inside an eccentric chamber: the vanes bend as they pass the narrow part and, as they open, create the vacuum that draws the honey. That is why it starts with an empty hose, without priming, and why it moves honey in a continuous flow at low revs, without whipping it or working air in: a fast centrifugal pump emulsifies honey and fills it with bubbles that then take days to rise in the tank.
02 · THE FLOW, HONESTLY
Liverani rates the Minor 40 at 900 rpm at 6,900 litres an hour, but that is with water and at level. Honey at 20 °C is several thousand times more viscous: with runny, warmed honey you work in the order of 2,000-2,400 l/h, and with cold, thick or waxy honey far less, and straining the motor. The trade rule is to warm the honey before pumping and not ask the pump for more than half its water figure. Head and metres of hose take away more.
03 · WHAT WEARS AND WHAT KILLS IT
Two normal wear parts: the flexible impeller, which loses elastic memory with the hours and warns by no longer priming, and the shaft’s mechanical seal, which when worn drips honey towards the motor. Both are changed without a workshop and are in the house: nine-vane neoprene impeller (2894) and ceramic-graphite mechanical seal (3276), the part that answers the usual question “it leaks honey at the back”. What kills an impeller in seconds is running dry: honey is the only thing that lubricates it. And what blocks the pump is crystallised honey inside: warm water through the circuit as soon as each transfer ends.
04 · CONNECTIONS AND TROLLEY
The outlet is Ø 40 with a Garolla quick coupling, the DN40 of the usual transfer hose (792) and of the taps on the house honey tanks; the hose bracket (2947) holds the hose on the rim of the receiving tank. It sits on a stainless trolley with wheels and handle, to move it around the room without lifting it. 1.5 kW motor at 220-230 V: an ordinary socket, no three-phase.
05 · BEFORE YOU BUY
The pump is supplied mounted on its trolley, with outlet coupling; hoses, hose bracket and spares come separately.
