01 · WHAT THE SPIRAL IS FOR

Suction without the hose collapsing

A plain hose copes well with delivery, but on the suction side it collapses: the vacuum flattens it and the flow stops exactly when the pump pulls. The steel spiral reinforcement is what prevents that, and it is why this hose works on both sides of the circuit. With thick honeys — heather, chestnut — the difference stops being theoretical within minutes of starting.

02 · WHICH DIAMETER TO ORDER

25, 40, 50 or 60, measured inside

The four diameters you see are the internal bore, which is the figure you choose by: it has to match the pump, the filter or the ripener you are connecting to. The wider it is, the more flow and the less work for the pump; the narrower, the more control when filling. The outside diameter depends on the wall thickness, so if it has to pass through a bulkhead or a bracket with no room to spare, ask us first.

03 · IN THE HONEY HOUSE

Pump to ripener, and on to the bottler

This is the transfer hose: it connects the pump to the ripener, the ripener to the bottling machine, and any run towards filters or tanks. Being translucent you see the honey go through, which is not decoration — you notice if air is getting into the suction, and air is what puts bubbles in the jars and sends you back to settling. Fittings and clamps go separately and are chosen by that same internal bore.

04 · CLEANING AND STORING

Empty, rinsed and hung up

Honey left inside crystallises into a plug that costs more to clear than to avoid: when you finish, run warm water through until it comes out clean and hang it to drain — do not coil it wet in a corner. It complies with the European food-contact regulations (EC 1935/2004, 10/2011 and 2023/2006) and is suitable for food and drink up to 20% alcohol, fatty foods excepted.
