Pressure filter to adapt to strain honey. With internal cartridge with fine filter mesh of 0.4 mm. Prepared to couple with 2" outlet (50).
Angular pressure filter for the last step: it fits on the pump outlet and polishes honey that has already settled.
The number that matters is the free opening, not the mesh. The mesh has a 0.4 mm pitch between wires, but the wire takes up 0.22, so what actually gets through is 0.18 mm. That is the figure to compare against, and it is the one that decides what is held back.
01 · 0.18 MM OF OPENING, NOT 0.4
The inner cartridge carries a steel mesh with a 0.4 mm pitch and 0.22 mm wire; subtract and the free aperture is 0.18 mm, about 180 microns, which matches an 80 mesh screen. It is a fine filtering: it holds back what a harvest strainer lets through.
It is worth being clear about this because catalogues mix the three figures and they do not mean the same thing. For other apertures, the maker makes them to order.
02 · IT WANTS PRESSURE AND FLOW
It works with liquid honey that has already been pre-filtered, pushed by a helical pump or any pump giving at least 6 kg of pressure; lobe pumps at high pressure will also do. With less pressure the honey does not cross the mesh and the filter turns into a plug.
And there is a handling rule that is not obvious: you have to send it the whole flow at once, not a steady trickle. In practice that means a level detector that starts the pump once a minimum amount has built up to send through.
03 · DIN NUTS, NOT INCLUDED
Inlets and outlets are chosen in 2 inch or 1½ inch thread. Neither the fittings nor the hose come with it: you need a DIN nut and liner for each coupling, and there are two.
It is made of 304 stainless steel and is 50 cm long, so besides the threads you have to find it room: it mounts in line, after the pump and before the destination tank.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
A final polish, not a harvest filter.
| ✓ FITS | Liquid honey already settled, with a helical pump or one giving at least 6 kg of pressure. |
| ⚠ FITTINGS SEPARATE | It needs a DIN nut and liner at each end, plus the hose. None of that is included. |
| ✕ NOT FOR UNSETTLED HONEY | With honey loaded with wax, or at a small continuous flow, it blinds over. Pre-filtering comes first, without exception. |
