Solid energy feed with nano-particle thymol to support colonies through the critical periods of the year
Overwintering, early spring and the end of the honey flow all put similar pressure on a colony: energy reserves run low just when the bees need robust defences. The Candy Board Booster addresses both in one product — a compact carbohydrate block as an immediate energy source, combined with the Bee Immunity Booster complex, which delivers thymol in nano-particle form to strengthen the colony's natural immunity without the use of antibiotics.
Unlike creamy fondant, the Candy Board Booster is a firm, compact patty. This gives it better stability under normal conditions, but it does require a small adjustment in warm weather. In summer or during hot spells, open the patty by cutting the film from the top — this prevents the softened product from dripping out at the bottom and being wasted outside the frames. In cooler conditions (autumn, winter, cool spring), you can cut from the bottom as usual and place it directly over the top bars of the brood box. This is not a product defect — it is simply the nature of a compact formulation containing heat-sensitive active ingredients.
Thymol is a well-documented natural compound with antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. What sets the Bee Immunity Booster apart is its nano-particle formulation, which allows the active ingredient to be distributed more evenly through the colony via the trophallactic behaviour of nurse and forager bees. According to the manufacturer's trials — conducted under controlled conditions over three years — this delivery method can extend individual bee longevity by up to 5 days during the active season, with a more pronounced effect during overwintering, when each bee's lifespan has a direct bearing on colony survival. The product contains no antibiotics, making it compatible with management practices aimed at organic certification.
Nosema ceranae infection is particularly damaging in spring and in colonies already weakened after overwintering — exactly when the bees have the least capacity to fight back. Thymol acts on the intestinal epithelium, reinforcing the gut barrier against infection and improving general pathogen resistance. It does not replace a targeted curative treatment when active disease is present, but it is a rational preventive measure at the moments of highest colony vulnerability: the overwintering period, the spring build-up and the end of the flow.
The Candy Board Booster is ready to use with no mixing or preparation. Place it directly over the top bars of the brood box, in contact with the winter cluster or the active brood area. The three most suitable windows for administration are: (1) during overwintering, as a backup energy reserve and preventive immune support; (2) in early spring, when colonies emerge with depleted stores and need a boost ahead of the first laying push; and (3) at the end of the honey flow, to send colonies into the quieter period in better overall condition. Dose and frequency depend on each colony's state — follow the manufacturer's guidelines based on patty weight and observed stores.
