Not Langstroth, not Dadant, not Blatt

This is the question we get most: a mating nuc does not take hive frames but its own mini frame, and it neither stacks on nor sits over a standard Paradise nuc. It is a self-contained unit that you take to the apiary, stock with a few nurse bees, and remove once the queen is mated.

02 · THE TWO SIDES

Two colonies that must not meet

The divider splits the body into two units run as separate colonies: each with its own entrance, queen, population and stores. Before stocking it, check the divider closes tight: a gap between sides costs you one of the two queens. Feeding is separate too, one compartment per side.

03 · MONITORING

Few bees means little margin

A mating nuc reacts in hours to what a hive takes days to feel: heat, cold, hunger or running short of bees. The EPS insulates far better than thin timber, but it does not replace shade or inspection. Check ventilation, stores and acceptance more often than you would a normal colony, especially in the first days.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Mating depends on the weather, the drones available and the orientation of the flight point: the equipment sets the conditions, not the outcome.
