01 · THE 42 KILOS

Past this point the container stops moving itself

Full it goes over 42 kg counting bucket and honey, and that changes the handling completely. Do not drag it hanging from one handle, do not stack it full without knowing what the one underneath will take, and count on help to lift it onto a bench. It is also why the format makes sense: fewer containers to fill, close and label per batch.

02 · THE GEOMETRY

Wide mouth and a slightly tapered base

It measures 371.5 mm tall, 359 mm across the top and 321.5 across the bottom. The wide mouth makes filling under the extractor outlet easier and emptying cleaner, and the slight taper lets empty buckets nest into each other and give you back space in the honey house. If you are going to rest a strainer on it, check that top diameter first.

03 · THE LID

It protects from the room, it does not correct the honey

The lid keeps dust out and slows the moisture exchange with the store air between operations. What it does not do, and it is worth being clear: it does not bring down the moisture of a honey that came in high, nor does it prevent fermentation on its own. That is decided earlier, at harvest and in the settling tank. Wash and dry bucket and lid between batches and keep it closed in storage.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The 42 kg is indicative: it depends on the density of the batch and how full you fill it. To sell by weight, use scales.
