Thirty cages do not breathe like one

A queen with her 6-8 attendants uses very little oxygen, which is why a single cage travels well almost any way you like. The problem appears when you put them together: 30 cages are around two hundred bees in a closed space, and within hours they build up heat and CO₂ — especially with the box at the bottom of a postal sack, under others. The die-cut slots on all four faces renew the air without exposing the bees to a direct draught, which is the equally bad opposite. It is the difference between a summer shipment that arrives and one that does not.

It solves the physical side, not the paperwork

This box solves the part cardboard can solve: keeping the cages from moving and keeping the air fresh. What it does not solve — and this is worth knowing before selling queens by courier — is that transporting live animals has its own rules and that not every carrier accepts it. Before organising a season's shipments, confirm with your carrier that they take livestock and on what terms. The box will serve you either way; what can stop you is the counter at the depot.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The insert is die-cut for NICOT cages (the plastic ones with a candy cap) and JZ's BZ's, the two standard references. If you use another cage model, measure first: compatibility is decided by the cage, not the queen or the box. It measures 13.6 × 9.2 × 24 cm and is disposable — supplied for one journey, not to be reused season after season.
