Details of Quarti 18F Electric radial honey extractor

Quarti stainless steel radial extractor, Ø 620 mm, with a 150 W motor and controller: 18 shallow frames a load, or 3 deep ones set up tangentially.

Nine slots, eighteen frames: the photo is not wrong. It is the doubt raised most often on this page, and it has a simple explanation nobody had written down.

01 · THE CAGE

Two shallow frames in every slot

The nylon cage has nine slots, and each one takes two shallow frames, one above the other. Two by nine is eighteen: the photo and the description say the same thing.

Each slot is as tall as a deep frame, and that is where the second configuration comes from: with three grids the cage works tangentially and takes 3 Dadant or Langstroth brood frames.

02 · RADIAL OR TANGENTIAL

One machine, two ways of working

Radially the frames stand like the spokes of a wheel and the honey leaves both faces at once: there is no stopping to turn them round, and the comb suffers less because no face is forced against the drum wall.

Tangentially you do have to turn them, but that is what lets you spin brood frames. Three per load: it covers an emergency or an odd comb, not extracting brood frames in series.

03 · THE MOTOR

150 W, speed and direction of spin

The motor is 150 W and comes with a controller: it regulates the speed and reverses the direction of spin. The first matters on start-up, because new or lightly wired comb blows out if you throw revolutions at it.

The second has its reason: the cell is not horizontal, it tilts upward, so one direction empties one face better and the other direction the opposite one. Alternating is what leaves the frame dry without raising the speed.

04 · THE REST OF THE KIT

Ø 620 mm, polycarbonate and a 40 tap

Stainless steel drum of Ø 620 mm on three legs, also stainless, and clear polycarbonate lids — you watch the load spin without opening up.

The tap is nylon, 1 ½" (40 mm), the standard honey-house size: the same one on settling tanks, transfer pumps and hoses, so it links up with whatever you already have.

05 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The height from the tap to the floor is not published and it is what decides whether your bucket fits underneath; it is also worth confirming whether the three tangential grids come in the box. Ask us before ordering.

✓ FITS18 shallow frames a load, without turning frames and with the speed under control.
✕ DOESN'T FITFor extracting brood frames in series: tangentially only 3 fit per spin.
⚠ NOT INCLUDEDThe bucket or settling tank to collect into, nor the filter in between.
