01 · HOW TO USE IT

Roll tight, light from below and fill

Take a handful of strips, roll them into a tight cylinder the diameter of the smoker and light it from the base; two or three puffs and the white, dense, cool smoke you want comes out. Alone, cardboard burns fast and does for lighting or a short inspection; for a whole morning put straw pellets (2021), API-CLOUD fuel (999), pine needles or untreated shavings in the centre of the roll, and the cardboard acts as a jacket burning slowly around them.

02 · WHY CARDBOARD

The fluting lets air in and kraft does not smell

The fluting of corrugated cardboard leaves air channels between the layers, which is why it burns evenly instead of going out when pressed. It is unprinted industrial kraft: no inks, varnishes or plastic coatings, which are what must not go into a smoker because the smoke carries them into the hive.

03 · SPARKS AND THE SECOND USE

Spark arrestor in summer, and filler for jars

Cardboard throws embers in wind: in summer, a spark-arrestor spout (1368, 1439), lighting away from dry grass and carrying the smoker out or in a metal box (65, 1361). And the same strips, unrolled, are packing filler for shipping jars and wax: they fit the gaps and cushion, no polystyrene or bubble wrap.
