What the 100 g mean

Resolution is the smallest step the display can show: here, 100 grams. Accuracy is how far the reading departs from the true weight, and it is always a larger number.

For what a crane scale is used for in a honey house — knowing what is in a drum, controlling stock, loading a lorry — that difference does not matter. But it is worth knowing which of the two the instrument is giving you.

02 · NOT FOR SELLING BY WEIGHT

Where the limit is

If the weight is going to determine a selling price, the regulations call for a verified legal-metrology instrument, with its marking. This scale is for internal control.

In the honey house it does everything else: weighing drums of honey, sacks of pollen or buckets of cappings, and keeping track of what comes in and goes out.

03 · THE TARE, WRITTEN ON THE DRUM

The trick that saves half an hour

Hanging a full drum gives you the gross. The honey is gross minus tare, and a large steel drum weighs on the order of 30 kg empty.

The practical move is to weigh the empty drum once and write the tare on its own steel. From then on, each weighing gives you the honey directly.

04 · THE HOOK'S 30 MM

The compatibility figure

The hook is 113 mm long with a 30 mm opening. Those 30 mm are what has to pass through it: the sling, the ring or the eye of a drum clamp.

The HOLD function is what makes suspended weighing usable: a hanging drum swings and the number dances, so you freeze the stable reading and look at it in your own time.
