01 · COMPATIBILITY

The two frame sizes it takes

It holds 11 brood frames in two formats: Langstroth and Dadant US, at 482 × 285 mm, or Dadant Blatt, at 470 × 300 mm. The internal spacers are what set the gap, so the combs arrive without rubbing: that is the difference between unloading whole frames and unloading broken wax with honey in the bottom of the box.

02 · USE

Not just for bringing the crop down

The same box works both ways on the trip: taking foundation up to the apiary without it buckling on the way, and bringing old comb down for rendering without leaving a trail of wax and honey through the boot. It is also where you isolate a frame you want to look at properly at home. Being plastic, it hoses down between uses — exactly what you cannot do with a wooden box.

03 · TRANSPORT

Made to be carried full

Eleven brood frames with honey weigh what they weigh, which is why it has two side handles and four wheels underneath: you drag it to the car instead of lugging it from the apiary. Empty, they nest one inside another; full, they stack one on top of another thanks to the recesses in the lid, so they do not take over the store the rest of the year. The seal is tight: it neither drips in the boot nor leaves a trail of scent to draw robbing while you load.
