Details of Stainless Steel Honey Drum Transport Cart Legroc

A two-wheeled trolley on pneumatic tyres, entirely in stainless steel, for moving drums around the honey house and the apiary.

What you pay for here is the material, and it is worth understanding why. There are two drum trolleys in the catalogue and you choose between them by where they are going to live. This is the stainless one; the other is lacquered carbon steel and costs considerably less.

01 · WHY STAINLESS

A honey house gets hosed down, and that is where rust starts

An extraction room is full of water, steam and sugar. A lacquered trolley holds up fine until a drum knocks it, the paint chips and the rust starts exactly there, right against the container the honey travels in. Stainless has no coat to lose: it gets washed with the rest of the room and dried.

There is a second, less obvious effect: this trolley weighs 26 kg against the 60 kg of the carbon steel one. You feel that difference every time it has to go up into the van empty.

02 · HOW A DRUM IS LOADED

The pedal does the tilting

The metal foot pedal lets you tip the trolley with your foot while your hands hold the drum, which is the moment where backs get hurt. The metal securing system is adjustable and keeps the drum firm when the ground slopes.

The wheels are pneumatic and large, which is what makes an apiary with stones or ruts passable; on a smooth floor any wheel will do, outside it will not.

03 · THE MAXIMUM LOAD IS NOT PUBLISHED

And with 300 kg drums that matters

The standard honey drum holds 300 kg. The other trolley in the catalogue states that capacity and Ø 400 mm wheels; for this model the maker publishes no rated load, so we are not going to invent one.

If what you are going to move is full drums, write to us before buying and we will confirm it with the maker. For part-filled drums, jerrycans and buckets there is no doubt.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

One missing figure and one confusion worth avoiding.

✓ FITSHoney houses and workrooms that are cleaned with water, and apiaries with rough ground.
⚠ LOAD NOT STATEDThe maker does not publish a maximum load for this model. Before moving a full 300 kg drum with it, ask us.
✕ NOT A PALLET TRUCKIt is a two-wheeled trolley for one drum at a time; moving whole pallets needs different equipment.
