01 · WHAT PROTECTS IS THE GAP

The detail that decides it

A bee stings straight through mesh without any trouble if the mesh is resting against skin. What keeps her off is the separation, and that is the job of the removable bars that give the hood its shape.

The side panels reinforce exactly where a veil tends to close in: temples and cheekbones. When an old veil starts letting stings through, it is almost always because it has lost rigidity, not because the mesh is torn.

02 · WHY THE VEIL IS BLACK

It is not styling

The ClearView™ mesh is black nylon, and that is why you see through it so well: black absorbs light instead of reflecting it, so your eye focuses on what is behind and not on the fabric.

With a pale mesh the opposite happens — sunlight bounces off the threads and dazzles you at the very moment you are looking into a frame. And since the holes ventilate, you can work with glasses on without them fogging at the first breath.

03 · IT FOLDS BACK

Between one apiary and the next

The zips let you fold the hood back to rest on your shoulders. That is what you do when moving between sites: breathe, drink and drive without taking the whole suit off.

And it is also the reason to buy the spare: the hood is the part that goes first. A tear in the mesh writes off a suit that is otherwise fine.

04 · WASHING IT WITHOUT RUINING IT

And storing it without crushing it

The hood detaches completely. Wash it by hand in lukewarm water and let it air dry: a tumble dryer deforms the mesh, and fabric softener leaves a residue you do not want to be wearing in the apiary.

What costs it most life is not the washing, it is the storage. Squashed under weight it loses its shape, and a shapeless hood goes back to touching your face — which is exactly what it must not do.
