Flexible silicone mould for a round candle of 6.5 × 5.5 cm with a fairy relief.
A ball forgives a lot in the finish and nothing in the wick. The shape comes out on its own; what decides whether it burns well is the wick thickness you put in it.
01 · HOW MUCH WAX
Around 115 g at most — and weigh the first one
A ball of 6.5 × 5.5 cm will not take much more than 115 grams of wax; with the relief, rather less. The maker states 105 g.
The practical thing is to weigh the first candle and work out the batch from that number. Wax shrinks as it cools: it sinks beside the wick, and you top it up with a second short pour.
02 · THE WICK
3×16 for this diameter, and why
Beeswax melts higher than paraffin and asks for more wick at the same diameter. Too small and the flame digs a well, and the candle drowns in its own wax.
The maker specifies a 3×16 wick, centred before pouring and trimmed at the end to a centimetre.
03 · POURING AND RELEASE
70-75 °C, and do not move it
Pour with the wax at 70-75 °C and let it cool without touching the mould: moving it while it sets is what breaks the fine relief. The mould has a slit: before pouring, close it with rubber bands so the wax does not escape through the join.
The silicone releases on its own and cleans with a warm cloth; what ruins it is a blade.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
A mould is chosen for the wax it holds and for the wick.
