Silicone mould of the modern angel: an angel silhouette 11 cm tall and 9 wide, with about 145 g of wax and a 3 × 10 wick, according to LYSON.

An angel in silhouette, not in the round. LYSON gives about 145 g of wax per piece, so a kilo yields about seven candles. It is a wide silhouette, with textured panels inside a smooth frame.

01 · UNSLIT MOULD, 3 × 10 WICK

The wick goes through the base, no bands

According to LYSON, this is a mould without a slit: it is not closed with bands. The 3 × 10 wick is threaded through the mark in the base, held taut at the top with a stick, and the mould is filled from above. With a thinner wick, a silhouette 9 cm wide burns a well down the middle and leaves the angel standing around it.

The silicone is flexible and smooth inside, so the unmoulding keeps the clean lines of the design and cleaning afterwards is quick. It is a mould to reuse many times.

02 · 70-75 °C, NOT 65

The point where the wax follows the lines

The maker's sheet said to pour at about 65 °C, which is exactly where beeswax has only just melted: it arrives thick and does not follow the soft curves of this figure well. The working point is 70-75 °C.

The ceiling is 85 °C, above which wax darkens. Pour slowly with the wick already centred, let it cool without moving the mould, and only then unmould and trim.
