Details of Candle Mould - Little Lamb

Mould of the little Easter lamb with a side cut: 38 grams of wax a candle, about 26 candles to the kilo.

It is the brother of the bunny in the egg. Same family, same seasonal size and the same 3 × 9 wick, which is not included: anyone making both for Easter buys one wick size for the two figures.

01 · 38 GRAMS AND A SIDE CUT

It opens to set the wick and to take the candle out

At 38 grams a piece, a kilo of wax gives about 26 candles of 5 cm tall and 5.2 across. The mould is 6.5 cm tall and 22 in circumference, with the silicone wall around it.

The side cut is not a finish: it opens to set the wick centred and straight, and it opens again to unmould. On a figure with fleece and ears, pulling on the candle is exactly what chips it. Before pouring, the cut is closed with rubber bands so the wax does not escape through the join.

02 · 70-75 °C, NOT 65

Wax at 65 runs thick and misses the relief

Beeswax melts between 62 and 65 °C, so pouring at 65 means working right on the melting edge: it arrives dense and stops halfway into the fine detail. The comfortable point is between 70 and 75 °C.

The ceiling is 85 °C, above which wax darkens. With the wick vertical and the mould still, the piece cools on its own; the cut is opened only when it is completely cold.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY
