"Patterned Star" silicone mould, durable with a unique texture. Perfect for creating embossed Christmas candles that hide wax imperfections and catch the light.
Two-part silicone mould for a textured star candle, with relief patterns that play with the light once it is lit.
At 50 °C beeswax is not poured: it is solid. The supplier's sheet says to pour between 50 and 60 °C. Beeswax melts between 62 and 65: at 50 it is solid and there is nothing to pour. It is poured at 70-75, and the ceiling above is not shrinkage: it is the 85 °C at which wax darkens.
01 · AT 50 °C WAX IS SOLID
The sheet said a controlled temperature helps the wax reach into the relief, and there it is right: what does not add up is the number. Between 70 and 75 °C it gets into every hollow of the pattern; at 60 it arrives setting and leaves the patterns half done.
02 · THE RELIEF HIDES THE WAX
It is the advantage a smooth mould does not have. With wax that is not fully filtered, or soy prone to frosting — those white surface patches — the texture absorbs what a smooth face would show up.
And lit, the light crosses the relief unevenly: the candle changes depending on where you look at it from.
03 · AND IT TRAPS AIR IN THE HOLLOWS
Every hollow in the pattern is an air trap. After pouring, tap the sides firmly for a few seconds: that releases the microbubbles and sends them up.
And unmould without hurrying: the relief creates friction. It is a two-part mould and the elastic bands are compulsory before pouring; we have them at €1.61.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
70-75 °C, tap after pouring and unmould cold.
