Silicone mould for beeswax candles — praying angel (12.2 × 4 cm). Each candle uses 70 g of wax, no. 3 wick. Clean release, no release agent needed. ~14 candles per kg of wax.
Making candles from your own apiary wax is one of the most direct ways to add value to your production. This silicone mould produces a praying angel 12.2 cm tall with fine detail on wings and hands — a classic design with steady demand at craft fairs, gift shops and Christmas markets.
The silicone flexes to release the candle without forcing delicate areas (wings, fingers). Unlike rigid plastic or metal moulds, it needs no release agent and faithfully reproduces the wax surface texture with every pour.
Each candle uses just 70 g of beeswax. One kilo of clean wax gives about 14 candles. If the wax comes from your own hives (retired combs, cappings from the extractor), raw material cost is virtually nil and the margin per candle sold is very healthy.
Heat the wax to 62–65 ºC (never above 85 ºC or it will darken). Pour slowly to avoid bubbles. Use a no. 3 wick centred with a skewer. Let it cool at room temperature — slow cooling reduces cracks and improves the surface finish.
