Brood box in fixed Dadant US format, made from 25 mm pine with finger-jointed corners. Supplied with 10 Dadant US Hoffman frames measuring 48 × 30 cm. This is a body designed for the American format; it should not be confused with Dadant Blatt, whose frames and frame rests use different dimensions.
The Hoffman frames maintain their spacing via their widened side bars, without relying on a toothed strip for each position. Before combining this body with a bottom board, queen excluder, crownboard, super or existing frames, check the external dimensions and the actual length of the top bar. The fact that two parts are named Dadant does not guarantee that they are interchangeable between the US and Blatt systems.
Place the brood box on a flat surface and check its stability, squareness, joints and the continuity of its bearing surfaces. Lay out the ten frames, check that they hang without rubbing, and inspect the wires, slots and assembly before fitting the wax. This initial check allows you to detect any warping or defective frames whilst it can still be resolved without dismantling a colony.
The technical data sheet does not specify a particular exterior treatment. If the wood arrives unprotected, apply only an exterior finish suitable for beehives and allow it to dry thoroughly before use; do not coat the interior with products not specified in the documentation. During inspections, avoid applying excessive pressure to the corners with a hive tool and clean the contact surfaces so that the hive bodies sit securely without wobbling.
