Paradise Honey® expanded-polystyrene half super for the configuration BeeBox Dadant Blatt with 8 frames sold in this product sheet. It corresponds to reference 11861, with visible plastic profiles at the joints. The manufacturer refers to the base unit as “Hive Body Dadant 1/2” and states the dimensions as 55 × 46 × 16.8 cm.

📐 Dadant is not sufficient: check the complete system

This half super is designed for the BeeBox assembly with an external footprint of 55 × 46 cm and an eight-frame configuration of Dadant Blatt. Do not choose it simply because your hive is called Dadant: Dadant US, Dadant Blatt and other configurations may have different frame top bars, spacers, frame rests and dimensions. Place the part on the hive body and check the fit, frame spacing and number of positions before populating it.

🧱 Extra-hardened EPS and reinforced joints

Paradise Honey specifies food-grade, extra-hardened expanded polystyrene with a density greater than 100 kg/m³. It is a lightweight, insulating material, but should not be treated like timber: avoid nailing fixings without a suitable system, levering a hive tool against EPS edges, or exposing it to open flames, intense heat or solvents. The plastic profiles reinforce the joint areas and should be kept free of hardened propolis to prevent the joint from becoming stuck.

The term “8 frames” defines the working configuration, not the contents of the unit. Unless specified separately in the order, compatible frames and spacers must be purchased or reused. Before installation, check the contact surfaces, profiles and corners; clean using methods suitable for EPS and allow to dry completely before reassembly.

🎨 Painting: outside only, and not just any paint

Polystyrene does not rot and does not take up moisture, but the sun does attack it: a coat of paint is not cosmetic, it is what makes the super last decades. Use water-based exterior paint or polyurethane, preferably UV-protected. What must not go on it is enamel or anything with solvent: they attack polystyrene. And paint the outside only — leave the inside bare, because the bees end up coating it in propolis anyway.
