01 · WHERE IT IS NEEDED

The joint is the weak point, not the wood

When a hive gets moved — a migratory load, a change of site, even lifting a full box by one side — what gives is rarely the wood: it is the joint between floor, brood box and super. The plate screws across that joint and turns two stacked parts into one solid assembly. It is the screwed, reversible answer to what a fixed-floor hive solves by nailing the box down.

02 · HOW IT GOES ON

Four screws, two either side of the joint

The four holes spread the load through the wood instead of concentrating it on one point, which is what eventually splits the grain. It goes on the outside, two screws into the upper part and two into the lower; the screws are not included and must stop short of the wall thickness, because one poking through inside will snag the frames. Two plates per hive, one on each side, hold it more than well enough.

03 · BEFORE YOU BUY

If you need the exact size for a particular gap, write to us before ordering and we will confirm it with the part in front of us — we would rather measure it than give you a catalogue figure. And bear in mind it is semi-permanent: separating the parts takes a screwdriver, so it is not what you want on equipment you open every week.
