Details of Thermologger HI148-3 Hanna®

Hanna HI148-3 temperature logger with an external stainless steel probe on a 1 m lead. Reads -40 to 125 °C, stores up to 8,000 samples per channel and comes factory-calibrated with a certificate.

This is not a thermometer: it is the documentary evidence. A thermometer tells you how warm the honey is now; this one tells you how warm it has been all along.

01 · WHAT IT IS ACTUALLY FOR

Proving the honey was not heated

HMF rises with heat and with time, and never comes back down. When a consignment arrives with high HMF, the argument is always the same: did it happen in the honey house or on the road?

A logger programmed at origin and downloaded at destination answers that with data. It is the tool of anyone selling to distributors, exporting, or moving honey in insulated transport — and of anyone who wants to know what their warming cabinet really does overnight.

02 · HOW MUCH IT LOGS, AND FOR HOW LONG

8,000 samples, and you set the pace

The interval runs from 2 seconds to 24 hours, and the endurance follows from it: at one reading a minute, 8,000 samples cover about five and a half days; at one every ten minutes, close to two months.

For a shipment, a reading every 5-10 minutes is plenty and leaves margin. To watch a decrystalliser or a cabinet, short intervals over a few hours give the fine curve. It also carries programmable visual alarms for high and low limits.

03 · CALIBRATED, AND WINDOWS ONLY

The certificate is what gives the data weight

It arrives factory-calibrated with a certificate, and that is what turns the record into something you can defend in front of a customer or an inspection. Without it, a graph is just a graph.

The software is for Windows and connects over USB-C; it can be installed on as many machines as needed, so you programme it in one place and download it in another. The three AAA cells last around two years.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

Check you have a Windows PC for the software. The external probe is what goes into the honey; the unit stays outside.

✓ RIGHT FITDocumenting the temperature chain in transport, cabinet or honey house.
✕ WRONG FITReading a temperature on the spot: use a probe thermometer for that.
