3,520 ml ≈ 5 KG OF HONEY | 105 mm MOUTH |
320 mm HEIGHT | PET CLEAR BODY |
Clear PET jerrycan with handle and press-fit lid for storing and moving around 5 kg of honey: the bulk format between extraction and the jar.
Its virtue is a dull one you appreciate daily: you can see what is inside without opening it.
01 · YOU SEE IT WITHOUT OPENING
Against the opaque buckets everyone has always used, the clear body lets you check the level, the colour and how far crystallisation has got at a glance, lid on. It looks like convenience and turns out to be preservation: every opening lets air in, and honey is hygroscopic — if the store room is damp, that damp ends up inside. A container you need not open to know what it holds is a container you open less often.
02 · A 105 MM MOUTH
One hundred and five millimetres of mouth is enough to sit the jerrycan under the honey tank tap and fill it straight, no funnel and no honey running down the outside. And once it sets — and it will set — a spatula reaches the bottom to get it out, which is exactly what you cannot do through a bottle neck. One caveat: coarse crystals need more than 40 °C to flow again, and that job is not done in here. PET is meant to store the honey, not to go through the warming cabinet: if you are going to liquefy it, decant it first into something built for heat.
03 · PRESS-FIT OR SCREW
Before deciding by litres, look at the closure. This one is press-fit: quick to open and close, handy when the container sits still on a shelf or in the store. The 3 kg jerrycan has a screw cap and a flat-sided body, so it bites harder against the mouth for moving honey by road and stacks without wasting space in the box. If yours will travel full or come and go from a market, the screw cap will give you fewer headaches; if you want volume, a wide mouth and the lowest cost per kilo, the 5 kg is this one.
04 · BEFORE YOU BUY
The question that comes up most: it is sold by the unit, not as a closed lot. What happens is that from 35 units the price per container drops — 35 is how the factory bag comes, so if you are bottling a whole harvest, that is where the step is. The body is PET and the lid and handle polyethylene (PE), both food-packaging plastics, light and reusable season after season. The lid is included.
