2,140 cc ≈ 3 KG OF HONEY | 82.78 mm MOUTH |
224 mm HEIGHT | Ø 116.9 MM MAXIMUM |
Clear PET jerrycan for around 3 kg of honey, with a handle, a screw cap and a flat-sided body that stacks without wasting space.
It is the little sister of the 5 kg one, and it does not win on size: it wins on the closure.
01 · SCREW CAP AND FLAT SIDES
Two things set it apart from the 5 kg jerrycan. The first is the screw closure: it bites against the mouth and stands up to decanting and to the road far better than a press-fit lid, which a knock can pop off. It opens and closes as often as you like without losing its seal — welcome if you are serving from the same container all season. The second is the flat-sided body: it sits flush against its neighbours, so you fit more product in the same metre of shelf, or the same box, than with a round container.
02 · THE MOUTH: 82.78 MM
Worth saying plainly so you choose on merit: this one's mouth is 82.78 mm, while the 5 kg reaches 105 mm. For filling from the honey tank tap, both are ample. The difference shows up once the honey sets and has to be scraped out: twenty-two millimetres less mouth is a good deal less room to get a spatula in and reach the bottom cleanly. If your honey crystallises hard and you expect to empty it by hand, that figure matters more than the litres.
HEAT IS ITS LIMIT
Two things this container will not take, both for the same reason — PET deforms with heat. First: it does not go in the dishwasher. The wash temperature and above all the hot drying cycle take their toll, so wash it by hand with warm water and soap. Second: do not put it in the warming cabinet. Coarse crystals need more than 40 °C to flow again, and that job belongs in a vessel built for heat — decant the honey first.
03 · BEFORE YOU BUY
It is sold by the unit and the screw cap is included. The body is clear PET, so you see the level, the colour and how far crystallisation has got without taking the lid off — and every opening you skip is air that does not get in. It measures 224 mm tall by 116.9 mm at its widest, and weighs 300 g empty. If what you want is a wide mouth and more volume per container, the 5 kg is the other half of this decision.
