When you open the hive in midsummer and feel that hot air escaping like from an oven, you know your bees are using precious energy just to ventilate. And in the middle of winter, when the colony depends on every drop of honey to stay alive, insulation makes all the difference. A good hive means less energy wasted on climate control and more energy dedicated to brood and honey production.

The Multi-frame Dadant Blatt 10-frame beehive by LYSON is built with this in mind. Made from high-density expanded polystyrene (EPS), it provides up to six times better insulation than wood. Reinforced with plastic inserts in critical areas, it withstands daily use with hive tools and friction from frames, ensuring durability over years of use.

The hive combines light weight with strength. The low plastic ventilated bottom board with removable tray guarantees constant airflow, reduces humidity, and allows you to monitor natural varroa drop without disturbing the bees. It can also be pressure-washed without rotting like wood.

The high roof creates an insulating air chamber that prevents condensation in winter and overheating in summer. On top sits the 7.5 L food-grade plastic top feeder, designed with corner compartments that warm up quickly, keeping syrup accessible even in cold days.

The complete kit includes:

• One brood body with excellent insulation for strong colony growth.

The hive is delivered unpainted, in pure white, ready to be finished with water-based acrylic paint for improved UV resistance. Being made of EPS, it is up to 60% lighter than wood, making hive management easier on your back during honey flows.

Certified for food contact under EU regulations, it ensures your honey remains free of contaminants. In practice, it pays for itself within a few seasons through reduced winter losses and less need for supplemental feeding.

Important note: This hive is built for the Dadant Blatt standard (47 cm top bar), used mainly in France and Italy. It is not compatible with Dadant US frames (48 cm top bar), common in Spain, Germany and other countries. The 1 cm difference makes them non-interchangeable.
