10 DADANT BLATT FRAMES AT 47 | 5 PARTS: FLOOR, BODY, 2 SHALLOWS, ROOF |
7.5 L TOP FEEDER | 24 kg THE SET, IN EPS |
10-frame Dadant Blatt hive from Lyson’s Multi-frame system, in high-density expanded polystyrene with ABS reinforcements: low screened floor with tray, brood body, two 160 mm shallow supers, tall roof and a 7.5 L top feeder, unpainted. Frames with a 47 cm top bar, the French and Italian ones; the 48 Dadant US does not fit. 24 kg for the set, in loose parts.
It arrives as five stacked parts, not screwed together: polystyrene insulates and weighs little, but the modules are held together with catches or straps, which is what an Italian review missed on the first windy day.
01 · THE SIZE
It takes Dadant Blatt frames of 47 × 30 in the chamber and 47 × 16 in the shallows; the 48 Dadant US common in Spain does not fit. The body measures 454 × 544 × 309 mm outside and 375 × 450 × 296 inside; the shallows 454 × 544 × 170 (375 × 450 × 155 inside); the roof 457 × 546 × 130; the floor 466 × 595 × 72. It is the footprint of Lyson’s Multi-frame system: it stacks with its parts, not with wooden bodies or other polystyrene brands.
02 · HOW IT ARRIVES
Floor, body, two shallows, roof and feeder come as loose moulded parts without instructions: nothing to assemble inside each part, but nothing joining them either. They stack by gravity, and for strong wind or transport they are held with folding catches (410) or straps, like any modular hive. The Italian review from 2025 complained about exactly that: the fits alone do not hold in a gale. Before populating, two coats of water-based acrylic paint outside: it protects from the sun and is what keeps polystyrene.
03 · FLOOR, ROOF AND FEEDER
The low plastic screened floor has a pull-out tray for varroa counts and ventilates continuously; it cleans with a pressure washer. The tall roof makes an air chamber that cuts condensation in winter and heat in summer. On the body sits the 7.5 L food-grade plastic feeder, with corner compartments warmed by the colony’s heat, to give syrup without opening or triggering robbing.
04 · THE MATERIAL
High-density expanded polystyrene with ABS reinforcements on edges and rebates, where the hive tool and frame rubbing wear. Lyson declares up to six times the insulation of wood and 60 % less weight, and CE approval for food contact. Propolis is scraped cold and flat; never a torch, solvents or concentrated bleach.
05 · BEFORE YOU BUY
The five-part set is supplied without frames or catches; wooden or plastic Blatt frames, catches 410 and paint come separately.
