33 % PROPOLIS | 70° ETHYL ALCOHOL |
30 ml BOTTLE CONTENTS | AMBER GLASS WITH DROPPER |
Alcoholic propolis extract in a 30 ml bottle with a dropper cap: 33 % natural propolis in 70° ethyl alcohol suitable for consumption, as a saturated mixture.
That 33 % is the question this page gets asked most often, and it is not a detail: it is the only thing that lets you compare one bottle with another. Here it is declared, along with the alcohol strength.
01 · WHAT IS INSIDE
The composition is two things: 33 % natural propolis and 70° ethyl alcohol suitable for consumption. A saturated mixture means the alcohol holds all the propolis it can take at that strength; beyond that, no more goes in.
Those two numbers are worth reading, because they are what you can compare between brands. A "concentrated" bottle with no declared percentage tells you nothing: the same 30 ml container can hold half the propolis of another and look just as dark. And the strength matters for the obvious reason — this contains alcohol, it is not a water-based preparation.
02 · WHY IT TURNS WHITE IN WATER
Propolis resins dissolve in alcohol, not in water. Drop a few drops into a glass of water and the alcohol is diluted, the resins can no longer stay in solution and they come out: the mix turns milky and cloudy straight away. That is how any alcoholic propolis extract behaves — not a fault in the bottle, and not a sign that it has gone off.
Which is why the usual advice — "dissolved in any liquid" — falls short. It goes down rather better on a spoonful of honey, or in something other than plain water: milk, an infusion, a coffee. And one practical warning that saves grief: propolis stains and it is resinous, so it is worth not dosing over a pale tablecloth or resting the dropper on the worktop.
03 · WHAT IT ISN'T
Even though we sell it among beekeeping supplies, this bottle is not a hive health product: it is not applied to the bees, it acts on nothing inside the hive and it has no connection with varroa treatments. It does not carry organic certification either; if that is what you are after, the Propolia© BIO propolis tincture is a different reference, with a metered pipette and its milligrams per dose declared. And the daily amount and directions for use are whatever the bottle label states: this page describes the product, it does not replace the label.
