01 · WILL YOURS FIT?

28.5 cm tall, and the bellows count

Measure the smoker upright, with the lid closed and the guard on: if it is over 28.5 cm, it will not go in standing. Models of 23 to 27 cm — the stainless with spark guard, the ECO, the welded one — go in with room to spare; the XXL at 32.5 cm does not fit, and for that there is the APIBOX Alta, which is 34 cm. And if yours is right on the edge, there is a way out several people already use: put it in lying down.

02 · WHAT IT IS REALLY FOR

The drive home

A smoker just put out is still smoking and still hot, and that is the moment it ends up rolling around the boot. Inside the box, the smoke stays in — the car does not smell — and the embers are kept away from tarpaulin, clothes and everything else that burns. Even so, it is not a cool box: the box gets hot, so do not put it on a seat or on plastic, and open it outside the car.

03 · STAINLESS OR GALVANISED

Both do the job; the difference is service life

Galvanised does exactly the same work and costs less: the sensible option if the box lives inside the vehicle or in the store. Stainless steel is paid for by how it stands up to the weather and how easily it cleans off soot — if the box is going to live in a pick-up bed or a trailer, that is where you notice it.

04 · BEFORE YOU BUY

The finish is chosen when ordering: stainless or galvanised. It measures 19.8 × 15.5 × 28.5 cm; for smokers over 28.5 cm tall, the Alta version.
